Virginia Wineries

Virginia has many great wineries to visit. From the Blue Ridge Vineyard to the First Colony Winery, there’s a fun time to be had. Whether you’re an avid wine connoisseur or just want to make your trip a little less ordinary, think about adding one or more of these wineries to your itinerary.
Afton Mountain Vineyards
The Afton Mountain vineyard is one of Virginia’s first farm wineries. It is located at 234 Vineyard Lane, Afton in Central Virginia Region. Their wines have received recognitions for their excellence at national and international competitions by winning awards. Their wine tasting room is open year round with light fare to complement your wine.
They are open 10am – 6pm, Wednesday-Monday (March-December), 10 am – 5pm (November & December), Friday-Monday 11 am – 5pm or by appointment (January-February). Closed on major holidays.
Blue Ridge Vineyard
The Blue Ridge Vineyard was voted one of the “Best Virginia Winery” winners by City Magazine readers and “ Best of City Awards 2008.” This family-owned winery is making wines from old growth vines, giving it a distinct taste.
It is located at 1027 Shiloh Drive, Eagle Rock. They’re open from March-December from 12 – 6pm, Wednesday thru Monday. They produce Riesling, Traminette, Sweet Shiloh, Solstice and others. They have a number of events all year, wine tasting included for a small fee.
Concoran Vineyard
The Concoran Vineyard (wines pictured above) uses traditional methods in their wine making process to achieve the best flavor and quality in their wines. Their tasting room is in a restored 200 years old farmhouse, overlooking a lovely pond. It’s open Saturdays and Sundays, 12 – 5pm.
There is a $5 tasting fee and they hold events from March-December. Their award-winning wines have been recognized in a number of competitions from all over. Their 2005 Chambourcin, Meritage and Cabernet Franc are excellent. Concoran Vineyard is located at 14635 Corkys Farm Lane, Waterford, in the Northern Virginia, Loudoun County. First Colony Winery
The First Colony Winery is located in the heart of Virginia wine country, in the beautiful Albemarle County. With a French winemaker you can’t do anything but produce remarkable wines.
Their Tasting room, winery and gift shop is open daily, 11am – 5pm, including tours and wine tasting for free. Private tasting and group tours are available also. Their 2001 vintage was highly recognized in wine competitions that it gathered over 20 awards. First Colony Winery is located at 1650 Harris Creek Road, Charlottesville. Farfelu Vineyards and Winery
Farfelu is Virginia’s first winery and it’s located at 13058 Crest Hill Road, Flint Hill, 60 miles West of DC. This 86-acre estate features an 1860 dairy barn turned tasting room, an expansive deck overlooking the vineyard, a river hiking trail, horseshoes, volleyball, bocce ball and picnic area.
They’ve been producing outstanding wines, including an award-winning Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Viogner and a Bordeaux-styled red called Muse. Farfelu is open year-round from Thursday-Monday, 11am – 5pm. Tours are offered at noon, Saturday and Sunday. For more information call 540.364.2930.
